What is the origin of the name, WebFresco Studios,
and what does fresco have to do with Web development?
As you may know, it's very difficult to find a domain name that
hasn't already been registered. We originally adopted the name
because it sounded cool, but we have since discovered that it
has considerable depth. The Web part obviously speaks to the
technology we use, but the Fresco part of the name may require
some explanation.
Fresco is a monumental art form dating back to early Egyptian and
Greco-Roman times. The term is derived from the Italian word
affresco, which means fresh. The artist paints on
damp (fresh) plaster to produce vibrancy of color and luminescence
that can endure the life of the wall or ceiling. Frescoes may
exist as a merely decorative element -- a wall or ceiling border,
for example -- or may be large scale compositions -- Michelangelo's
Sistine Chapel being the most familiar to us. Only the most skilled
craftsmen are successful fresco artists.
The parallels to Web development are numerous. It is important to
approach a new Web presence from a fresh perspective.
We use fresh, vibrant color combinations to draw in the
viewer. Keeping a site fresh and dynamic is crucial to
retaining viewers.
We're capable of creating small vanity sites, or large-scale,
complex sites. Since the goal is to have an enduring
presence, the underlying structure must be sound and well designed.
We feel that we are masters of the art of Web development --
the result of several years of professional experience.
Great works of art have an immediate impact, yet are always appreciated
more upon closer examination. Similarly, great Web sites look great
at first glance, the primary message of the site is immediately
apparent. On closer examination, you'll find that you can easily
navigate through the site, you always know where you are, and the site
design is consistent and logical -- every element serves a purpose.
We're convinced that the closer you look, the more you'll appreciate
our work.
